Tim graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)/Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and commenced his teaching career at The Scots Prepatory School Bathurst in regional New South Wales where he taught years Four through to Six, was the sports coordinator and coach for soccer, athletics, rugby, swimming and cross country. Tim would take this experience overseas to the UK where he taught in the public school system.
The teaching experience in the UK gave Tim a desire to work with children who present challenging behaviours, but in an environment outside of the classroom. Upon returning to Australia in 2007, Tim joined the organisation Barnardos in Wellington NSW as a Youth and Family Worker, and Reconnect Worker where he would work with children who were disadvantaged and ‘at-risk’, predominantly the Indigenous community, engage with them in activities that would open dialogue and assist them to develop their interests and skills to keep them engaged in school and family life. Tim would also work with families and implement strategies and programs that would help keep the family together and avoid the risk of children being placed into the foster care system.
From Barnados Tim moved to the coastal city Wollongong NSW and commenced work at CareSouth as an Out of Home Care Recruitment and Training Caseworker. Over two years Tim trained and assessed over 40 individuals and couples who expressed a desire to become foster carers, managed a case load of approximately 15, and supervised children living in out-of-home residential care.
In 2010 Tim moved into a promising career with the Learning and Development department of the NSW State Government – Family and Community Services.
Over the next three years, Tim moved through a range of positions at FACS – E-Learning Project Officer, Computer Training Program Project Officer, Senior Project Officer, Corporate Learning & Development Project Officer – these roles boosted Tim into the adult education field where he trained Managers, Caseworkers, Administration Staff and other non-government organisational staff. Tim would manage the delivery of a range of programs Key Information Data Service (KiDS), Out of Home Care (OoHC), Shared Stories:Shared Lives, Caseworker Development Program (CDP), and would also review and implement state policies, provide research, consultation and advice to management as well as prepare reports, contracts, budgets and presentations.
In July 2013 the FACS department was reconfigured and the opportunity arose for Tim to continue in his work there as a contractor trainer and field coach. This venture enabled Tim to relocate to Gundagai NSW where for the past six years Tim has been a field coach to over 300 caseworkers across NSW and continues to work closely with both government and non-government organisations to deliver their caseworker training programs.
Tim’s main aim is ensuring workers are skilled and trained in effective and consistent record keeping of information and decisions, providing better outcomes for clients. This is evident through his proficiency in structured decision-making tools such as SARA and NCFAS (North Carolina Family Assessment Scale), a tool utilised by government and non-government agencies such as Uniting Australia.
Tim trains caseworkers from orientation, database requirements, safety of staff, workplace health and safety, through to engagement with clients and consistent and accurate decision making.
